Before you register: The AAIA is not an entry-level certification. ISACA requires you to already hold an active CISA, or another qualified designation, before you can register for the exam.
Qualifying designations include CISA, CIA, US CPA, ACCA or FCCA, Canadian CPA, Australian CPA or FCPA, and the Japanese CPA, among others. If you hold none of them you cannot register for the AAIA yet — confirm you qualify with ISACA before buying any study material, ours included.

What each AAIA domain covers
AI Governance and Risk. Accountability structures for AI systems, risk assessment approaches specific to models, regulatory and ethical obligations, third-party and vendor AI risk, and how AI governance connects to existing enterprise governance.
AI Operations. The operational life of a deployed model: data quality and lineage, model performance monitoring, drift and degradation, change and version control, incident response, and the controls that keep production AI behaving as intended.
AI Auditing Tools and Techniques. How the audit is executed: gathering evidence from AI systems, sampling and testing approaches, explainability and bias testing, documentation standards, and reporting findings to stakeholders.
AAIA exam facts
- Exam fee: US$459 for ISACA members, US$599 for non-members, payable in full for every attempt.
- Eligibility window: Six months from registration to sit the exam.
- Retakes: Four attempts in a rolling 12-month period — a 30-day wait after the first attempt, then 90 days after the second and the third.
- Exam languages: English, Simplified Chinese and Spanish.
- Question format: Every question has a stem and four answer options, with one best answer. Scores are based on the number of items answered correctly.
- Scoring: A scaled score from 200 to 800, with 450 to pass. A scaled score is a conversion of your raw score, so 450 is not 56% and cannot be read as a percentage of questions answered correctly. Unscored pre-test items are mixed in and do not count toward your score.
- Delivery: PSI test centres worldwide, or remote proctoring. Residents of India, Mainland China and Hong Kong are the exception: for them the AAIA is available only at a testing centre.
